Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lockau passed away on July, the 14th 2019 at the age of 70. As Professor of Plant Biochemistry at the Department of Biology, Wolfgang Lockau focused on cell differentiation and proteolytic processes. He made a major contribution to the clarification of biosynthesis and the degradation of reserve storage substances. He also discovered previously unknown metabolic pathways in cyanobacteria and characterised the enzymes involved.

However, Mr. Lockau's commitment was not limited to research and teaching. As Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences I, he was also actively involved in academic self-administration.

Mr. Lockau was an outstanding scientist and a role model for young academics.

The Faculty of Life Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin mourns the loss of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lockau.
