Target group: Doctoral candidates from their 2nd year onwards from all disciplines at our Faculty

 

Objectives:

Participants will:

  • learn to formulate messages based on their data
  • learn about presenting results and designing figures
  • learn the principles of designing appealing posters
  • learn to adapt their presentations to the target audience
  • learn to use and analyse body language, elocution and intonation

 

Contents:

This course provides young scientists with all the techniques they need to present their research on conferences in a convincing way. The participants will learn to directly present their data to other scientists. Topics include the analysis of the target audience, the reduction of a topic to the essential contents and the layout principles for visual aids for presentations and posters (arranging of texts, design of slides, use of dynamic tools etc.). In addition, oral presentation skills will be analysed in extensive exercises, including body language, elocution and intonation and addressing of the audience.

 

Preparation before the course:

Participants will be requested to bring a poster they already designed or a poster from their group to the workshop. In addition, they should prepare a 5 min. presentation with visual support (power point slides), which will be given and analyzed during the workshop.
