Conflict Consultation

Open to all doctoral candidates of Humboldt-Universität!

Trouble with your supervisor? Dissatisfied with the supervision, but don't dare to express it?

Humboldt Graduate School offers a weekly consultation with mediation experts.

What is on offer? How does it work?

The regular consultation hour is a service open to all doctoral candidates of Humboldt-Universität. Trained mediators offer their advice in situations which could result in conflicts during the course of your doctoral studies. If necessary, interventional or mediatory proceedings can be arranged. While the mediators are not employed by the Humboldt-Universität, their professional context is closely intertwined with the fields of academia and the promotion of young researchers. The consultation is completely confidential.

What are the benefits of mediation and conflict consultation?

Mediation is a structured proceeding that follows specific rules. Its goal is to support the involved parties in preventing or solving conflicts by enabling them to find a consensus on their own. The basic principle of mediation is “multipartiality”: The different opinions, expectations and the subsequent conflict between doctoral candidates and their supervisors can be addressed from an impartial viewpoint. In this way, serious problems very often can be avoided before they even arise.
