Completing the doctoral studies

Beginning the doctoral examination process

Please inform yourself well in advance about the necessary administrative steps and the required application documents for the completion of your doctoral studies. This also includes reading the doctoral regulations applicable to your doctorate.

Publishing and Doctoral Certificate

Interim Report
  • After the defence, you will receive an interim certificate from the doctoral office, but this does not yet entitle you to use the doctoral title.

Publication of the thesis
  • You must publish your thesis within one year after the defence. To do so, please contact the university library.

Doctoral Certificate

Once the university library has confirmed the publication of the thesis, the doctoral office prints your certificate. This is signed by the dean and the president.

Extending the doctoral studies

To extend the doctoral period, please submit an application for an extension to the Doctoral Office in good time. If the doctoral committee approves the application, the doctoral office will inform the enrollment office and the applicant.

The application to extend the doctoral studies contains a justification as well as the form for the Enrollment Office and must be signed by the supervisor.

For general questions about re-registration during the doctoral studies, the FAQ of the Enrollment Office for Doctoral Students can provide helpful information.
