WiNS School 2022
Energy for (your) future
10 - 13 June 2022, Blossin
Organizers:
Prof. Dr. Caterina Cocchi, University of Oldenburg/ HIOS/ IRIS Adlershof
Dr. Zsuzsanna Heiner, HU Berlin/ SALSA
Dr. Petra Metz, HU Berlin
The demand for sustainable energy sources has been dramatically increasing in the last few years. The outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent crises have made even more pressing the need for resources that are readily available to human beings and harmless to our health. Achieving this goal is a global challenge, especially for the incoming generation of scientists. And this will require an optimal balance between scientific knowledge and personal awareness. Education for respect, diversity and collaboration are also essential parts of this mix.
The goal of this Summer School is to bring together young female scientists from different backgrounds and levels of career, ranging from senior bachelor students to experienced post-docs, to discuss topics relating to future technologies in photonics, energy production and storage, as well as, sustainability in various fields of the natural sciences, ranging from physics to chemistry, including all their intersections. Under the direction of Prof. Caterina Cocchi (University of Oldenburg/ HIOS/ IRIS Adlershof) and Dr. Zsuzsanna Heiner (HU Berlin/ SALSA) scientific sessions with invited speakers will be combined with round-table discussions and seminars on career development and work-life balance. All participants will have the opportunity to present their own work through short, interactive presentations. An additional session dedicated to scientific communication will enrich the program, covering several aspects of this faceted topic: peer-review publishing, strategies for effective scientific communication, etc.
The event will take place over a long weekend (June 10-13, 2022) from Friday morning to Monday noon, in Blossin, a green, leisure location on the outskirts of Berlin. For the safety of the participants, a hygiene concept will be thoroughly implemented according to the regulations in place at the time of the event. Accommodation and living costs for participants will be fully covered.
Travel expenses of up to EUR 300 per person will be reimbursed within the framework of the Federal Travel Expenses Law (Bundesreisekostengesetz) after the event.
