During the doctoral studies
Counseling services of the Graduate Center
The Graduate Center offers a personal consultation service for all questions and concerns of those interested in doctoral studies and for current doctoral candidates. Please make an appointment with the coordinators in advance at: career-center-adlershof.mnf@hu-berlin.de
The colleagues in the doctoral office will be happy to answer questions about the formal process of a doctorate.
Conflict consultation - Impartial, external, confidential
The relationship between doctoral candidates and their supervisors is generally very positive and based on trust. However, this does not mean that there will never be situations, in which opinions can be fundamentally different, so much so that it might be helpful to consult an external party.
In order to solve such problems, all doctoral candidates of the Humboldt-Universität can use the conflict counselling service . In this way, serious problems between the doctoral candidate and the supervisor may be resolved in advance, so that the basis for constructive cooperation can be restored.
These consultation hours will be offered by trained mediators. While they are not members of the Humboldt-Universität or the Humboldt Graduate School, their professional context is closely intertwined with the fields of academia. The consultation or, if necessary, the following mediatory proceedings are completely confidential. These services are free of charge.
For organisational reasons, registration is required, but absolute confidentiality is guaranteed. The registration can be made by e-mail (hgs-consultation @ hu-berlin.de) or by phone at 030-2093-89710 (Dr. Regina von Schmeling).
Trainings and workshops for doctoral researchers
The partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) have teamed up to organize their Graduate Studies Support Program, a broad portfolio of trainings, retreats, conferences and other events. The program is open to doctoral researchers from all subjects, as long as they are affiliated to Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, or Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. It is free of charge.
E-Learning Module: Good Research Practice for Doctoral Researchers
What is research integrity all about?
Integrity is key to research quality. But especially as a doctoral researcher, you are faced with countless questions: Who owns my research data? How do I avoid plagiarism? How can I negotiate authorship? How do I recognize problematic publishers? What do I do in cases of research misconduct or power abuse?
The new E-learning course "Good Research Practice for Doctoral Researchers" will introduce you to strategies of recognizing and dealing with research misconduct or questionable practices. We invite you to reflect your own practice within the larger horizon of academic responsibility.
What happens in the course?
The six chapters of the course are designed to be completed in roughly ten hours – in your own pace, whenever and wherever you want. All content is available in English only. They include videos and interactive exercises designed by nine experts on research integrity. You will receive a certificate of completion when you pass the brief examinations that finish each of the six chapters.
