B1 In situ analytics at surfaces and in networks


Challenges: Which structural parameters influence the hierarchical self-assembly of functional sensing materials? What is the interaction and local structure of a molecule at the surface of a nanoparticle? What is the mechanism of a catalytic process occurring at a surface?


Objectives: The projects in this complex of dissertation topics are challenging with respect to analytical problem solving and to existing analytical approaches, specifically regarding spatial and temporal resolution, sensitivity, and conditions in situ (solvents, shielding gases etc.). They will require a close interaction between those who develop and adapt suitable methods and the organic and inorganic synthetic chemists.
